In Memoriam: Martin Eli Weil, 1940-2009
We have very sad news to report.
Restoration architect and longtime Historic West Adams resident Martin Eli Weil died over the weekend, apparently of natural causes.
Martin moved to West Adams in 1985 and owned one of the District's premier homes, a Greene and Greene-designed Craftsman bungalow. As an architect, he specialized in restoration projects of landmark historic homes and other properties, and won many awards and accolades for his work. He was an expert in historic design, and historic colors.
Martin loved historic preservation, and he loved West Adams. As he had done so many times before, just last Friday night Martin was working on a color analysis for new Harvard Heights neighbors who want to paint their house with its accurate original colors, and, we are told, Martin was very excited that they were fixing up their house. Many of you have had this same conversation with him over the years, as he as provided advice and expertise to an uncounted number of West Adams preservationists.
Martin's death was unexpected. Funeral arrangements are pending.
