Dear Council Member Wesson:
At the regularly convened Governing Board meeting of the United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council (UNNC) held on January 9, 2020, the Board voted without opposition, 15 yes, 0 no, 1 abstention, and 5 absent, to write to you to express UNNC’s mounting concern about the City’s continuing failure to 1) commence interim inspections of oil drill sites as ordered by Council on 9/7/18, and 2) move forward expeditiously to enact an ordinance establishing an Annual Oil Drill Site Compliance Inspection Program as was also directed by the council vote on 9/7/18.
We ask you to please return this matter Council for immediate action, including doing whatever is necessary to endure the Office of the Petroleum Administrator immediately commences the interim inspections ordered by Council more than 16 months ago and to impress upon the City Attorney the urgency of returning a draft inspection ordinance to Council now, without waiting for the consultant’s report on wholesale revision of the City’s oil regulation.
