Grab your picnic baskets, chairs, and blankets, and get ready to listen to FREE music over three nights, at the annual West Adams Avenues Jazz & Music Festival.
For the past two decades the West Adams Avenues Neighborhood Association has put out a stage and sponsored a fun array of singers, musical acts and other entertainment (full line-up is at the end of this e-mail) over Labor Day Weekend, free to the public.
This year’s musical line-up includes a New Talent Showcase on Friday night; on Saturday, the Gumbo Brothers (New Orleans Funk, R&B and Traditional Jazz), and Rush Hour are among the acts; and on Sunday, international Singer/Songwriter Windy Barnes Farrell, and The Blue Violin and Friends (Lila Hood); among other singers and bands.
On Saturday night, there will even be a traditional New Orleans-style Second Line led by the Gumbo Brothers Band, to open that night’s festivities.
Along with great music, there are also vendors, ranging from local artisans and shopkeepers selling their wares (jewelry, clothing, handmade soaps ‘n’ such, even some event swag), to food (lots of great fare) from area restaurants and food trucks. (Food and wares are NOT free; the event’s music and entertainment are free).
Community organizations, including UNNC, will also have booths (please do stop by and visit with us!)
Kids will have some special activities, including face painting from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, plus the ReDiscover Center will have a “makers table” on Saturday.
